Compasses

A compass is a navigation tool for determining the direction relative to north (the compass direction). The traditional magnetic compass consists of a freely suspended magnet, which, under the influence of the earth's magnetic field, moves in a specific direction, making it possible to indicate magnetic north (or south).

A specific version is the ship's compass, a magnetic compass with, among other things, gimbal suspension for use on a ship.
